  • Community Cinema and Clear Channel will again present a mini film festival at the Beaumont Kids Fest 2005 in conjunction with KIDS FIRST! Coalition for Quality Children's Media in the Beaumont Civic Center, Beaumont, Texas August  2006.
    • Daily Screening of short films from the Coalition
    • Feature film presentations each day
    • Costumed characters from first run children's movies and or video

2005 Activities

  • Community Cinema was funded by HITEC for the following project in 2005:
    • The Houston Information Technology Empowerment Consortium is a organization that is committed that will coordinate, promote, and implement innovative, citywide initiatives that ensure Houston’s communities share equal access to technology, equipment, training and services, and to enhance opportunities for residents, businesses, and community organizations to benefit from established and emerging information technologies and initiatives.
    • We have established a collaborative effort with People in Partnership. This supports the Sunnyside Texas and Fifth Ward's Inner City Action Network - Kidz Choicez, and Pleasant Hill Academy. The focus is Technology - Cultural History and the Media. The collaboration uses media training provided by Bob Neal the local facilitator for KIDS FIRST! Coalition for Quality Children's Media of Santa Fe, New Mexico as well as local instructors This will prepare the youth of the community for the future revitalization of the Cultural Arts District in Fifth Ward in conjunction with the Fifth Ward Community Redevelopment Corporation and the Heritage Gathering in Sunnyside. The media trained youth will use their newly developed expertise to capture the rich history of both the Sunnyside and Fifth Ward communities.
    • Classes starting February 2005 and will cover:
      • Kids First! Junior Film Critics Club Training
        • The KIDS FIRST! Junior Film Critics Club program is a six to ten-session course in critical viewing skills for children ages eight to thirteen. The program teaches children how to be aware of what's real and what's not in media, how to recognize stereotypes, the difference between gratuitous and non-gratuitous violence and to remember the "real life" consequences of violence.
      • Active Video Training
        • Helps elementary and middle school students build character, academics and self-esteem through hands-on video production in Active Video! With emphasis on the creation process versus completed product, children gain confidence in their growing abilities.
      • HP Creative Scrapbook Assistant Training
        • Quilting buffs from the HP IT organization showcase and train community members on the latest software for developing and managing photo scrap books and tricks and tips in using HP scanners to produce patch work for quilts capturing community memories
  • Community Cinema again will have a supportive role in the Lamar University sponsored Spindletop Film Festival April 15th 2005.
    • Kick Off Party - Outdoor Screening (weather permitting)
      • The Art Studio 720 Franklin Street, Beaumont, Texas
        • 7:00pm - Community Cinema
  • Community Cinema Media Literacy Classes for Phoenix Outreach
    • Classes starting June 13th 2005 and will cover:
