Community Cinema was formed by Bob & Georgia Neal of Spring Texas just
North of Houston in July
2002. The mission of Community Cinema focuses on community art and
entertainment that fosters creative ideas and talent. The
Neal’s wanted to bring independent film to underserved communities to
facilitate an appreciation and resurgence of the art form. The idea came
from Bob’s involvement with independent film festivals as a volunteer and
as he pursued acting and voice over work in Houston. He noticed that the
filmmakers who attended and submitted their works to film festivals were
doing everything possible to promote their films. However, there was a
need to continue to promote and support the filmmakers after traveling the
film festival circuit.
With this in mind Bob & Georgia saw a need for the community at large who
could also benefit from this type of movie going experience. On their
own, the Neal’s acquired equipment and developed contacts in the community
to establish venues for this dream. Community Cinema provides the
opportunity for the filmmakers to screen their films to an audience made
up of the community, their friends, and family as well as potential
investors. It also provides an educational environment for the community
to learn from the cast, crew, or filmmakers who were in attendance.
Community Cinema also provides an opportunity for the venue to have new
patrons come to their establishments.
